Björk.Eklund Group acquires a one-third stake in Baltic Transport Group

As part of its strategy to expand its operations into the Baltic States, Russia and other parts of the Former Soviet Union, the Björk.Eklund Group has acquired a one-third shareholding in Baltic Transport Group (BTG), headquartered in Klaipeda, Lithuania.

Formerly BTG was owned wholly by its management. However, the shares have now been divided equally between Greencargo OY, owned by the Finnish Laitinen family, BTG's management headed by Marijus Zilinskas and Marius Tamosaitis, and the Björk.Eklund Group.

Baltic Transport Group is a sub-agent in Lithuania for the Björk.Eklund companies representing Evergreen, Hatsu Marine and Italia Marittima (formerly Lloyd Triestino). BTG also operates as a forwarder in Lithuania.

Björk.Eklund is both a liner agency and a forwarder and operates in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Spain. It represents Evergreen, Hatsu and Italia Marittima in the three Scandinavian countries and Höegh Autoliners, EVA Air, Nissan Motor Car Carrier, Euro Marine Carrier and SCA Transforest in Sweden. The company employs about 190 people and its turnover is around ?140 million.

Stefan Björk, one of the founders of the Group, describes his plans for the new acquisition:

"Together with our Finnish partners we will provide BTG with the resources to grow its business more rapidly than has been possible to date. We are planning to expand BTG's activities both geographically and in its scale of operations, for example by providing forwarding services to many more destinations worldwide."
