The Björk.Eklund Group establishes a new company in Denmark to handle Evergreen's liner agency requirements With effect from 4 November 2002, a new company, Greenship Denmark A/S, will take over responsibility for the liner agency activities in Denmark for Evergreen Marine Corporation. Offices have been established in both Copenhagen and Aarhus.
This change has been negotiated on a friendly basis between the existing agent, Fairplay A/S, and the Björk.Eklund Group, owners of Greenship Denmark A/S, and has the full backing of Evergreen. All of Fairplay Shipping's staff involved in its liner agency activities will be offered positions with Greenship Denmark, thus ensuring a smooth transfer of business.
Announcing the news, Björn Eklund and Stefan Björk, the co-founders of the Björk.Eklund Group, explained: "As individuals, we have been associated with Evergreen for over 20 years. In Sweden, GreenShip Sweden AB is the liner agent for Evergreen while GreenAir Scandinavia AB is the agent for EVA Air cargo and passenger operations. We are delighted to have this opportunity of extending our relationship into the Danish market.
"This move also fits in perfectly with the Björk.Eklund Group's desire to establish a foothold in Denmark. Increasingly, Scandinavia is being regarded as a single market by our trading partners, especially in the Americas and Asia, and so we are committed to establishing our business as a Scandinavian enterprise, not solely a Swedish concern. We believe this will be to the benefit of our customers, shippers and principals." Preben Hagemann, owner of Fairplay Shipping A/S, says that his company will now concentrate on other business sectors including NVOCC operations, forwarding, road transport and warehousing activities: "I am sad to be relinquishing the Evergreen agency after 23 years but times change and we must change with them. Having worked closely with Björn and Stefan for many years, I know that Evergreen - and the Fairplay Shipping employees who will be joining Greenship Denmark - will be in safe hands. I wish them great success with their growing business." The Björk.Eklund Group was originally formed in January 2000 by Stefan Björk and Björn Eklund when they acquired the company Greenship Sweden and some sister companies in a management buyout. Initially known as Greenship Holding AB, the parent company was renamed the Björk.Eklund Group in November 2001. | | |
